Price set on site before work starts · Open 24/7

Garage door opener installation means mounting a new motor and rail or wall unit, wiring the safety sensors and wall control, pairing your remotes and setting the travel limits. Quail of La Jolla does the work and tests the reverse before the visit ends.

Garage Door Opener Installation: What a Visit Covers

  1. Door check. We lift the door by hand to see if it is balanced and free of sticking points.
  2. Mounting. The motor, rail or wall unit is fixed to solid framing and lined up with the door.
  3. Sensors and wiring. The safety sensors go on both sides of the opening, and the wall control is wired in.
  4. Remotes and limits. We pair your remotes and set where the door stops when open and closed.
  5. Reverse test. We put an obstruction in the path and confirm the closing door turns around.

Picking a Drive Style for a Coastal Garage

  • Belt drive: a quiet choice when a bedroom or living space sits above or beside the garage.
  • Wall-mount unit: sits beside the door and keeps the ceiling free for racks or a taller door.
  • Battery backup: lets the door run during a power cut, so the car is not trapped.

Sea air can corrode exposed terminals and wall-button wiring. We keep connections tidy and tell you if anything in your garage looks damp or worn.

A New Opener Is Only as Good as the Door Under It

If the door is out of balance, the new motor takes the strain. Before you buy, ask about spring repair, cable repair and track repair. If your current motor still runs but acts up, opener repair may cost less than a swap. Door too worn for either? See new garage door installation.

The Reverse Rule, in Plain Terms

The Consumer Product Safety Commission requires openers made after January 1, 1993 to have external entrapment protection, and a closing door must reverse within 2 seconds of touching an obstruction. Its garage door safety guide advises a monthly test with a board lying on the floor.

Opener Installation Questions

Can a new opener go on my existing door?

Usually yes, if the door is balanced and moves freely by hand. We check the springs, cables and track first, because a heavy or sticking door makes any motor work too hard. Fix those parts first if they are worn.

What is the difference between a ceiling unit and a wall-mount unit?

A ceiling unit hangs over the door and pulls it along a rail. A wall-mount unit sits beside the door and turns the shaft above it, which leaves the ceiling clear. Tell us about your ceiling height and any storage overhead, and we will talk through which fits.

Will the new opener have safety sensors?

Yes. Federal rules require openers made after January 1, 1993 to include external entrapment protection, such as a photo-eye or edge sensor. We mount the sensors, point them correctly and check that the door reverses.

How much does opener installation cost?

The price depends on the opener you choose and the door it has to lift, so it is quoted on site. You hear the number before any work begins, and a completed repair makes the first diagnostic visit $0.
