Garage door spring repair replaces the springs that balance the weight of your door. When one breaks, the door feels very heavy or stays down, and the opener may groan without moving it. Quail of La Jolla replaces the spring and then tests the balance.
Garage Door Spring Repair: Signs a Spring Has Failed
- A loud bang from the garage, often with nobody near the door.
- A visible gap in the coil above the door, or a coil that looks stretched.
- A door that rises a few inches and stops, or will not lift at all.
- An opener that strains, hums or clicks while the door stays put.
- A door that slams down or hangs crooked when you let go by hand.

Torsion or Extension: What Sits Above Your Door
A torsion spring is mounted on a steel shaft above the door opening. Extension springs run along the horizontal tracks on each side. Both do the same job, and each must match the weight of your door. We read the door's size and label, check the old spring and choose the replacement from that, not from a guess.
Why Coastal Springs Get a Closer Look
Springs near the ocean live in damp, salty air, and bare steel can rust where the coils touch. Rust can weaken a coil and make the next break more likely. During a visit we look at the whole length of the spring, the end cones and the bearings, so we can tell you if something nearby needs attention.
A broken spring often takes other parts with it. A door that dropped may have a frayed cable or a bent rail. See cable repair, track repair and opener repair. If it happens at night, emergency garage door repair is open 24/7.

Spring Repair Questions
Can I keep using the door with a broken spring?
Please do not. The spring carries most of the door's weight, so without it the door is heavy and can drop. An opener is not built to lift that load and may burn out trying. Leave the door as it is and call (858) 281-2337.
Should I replace the second spring too?
If your door has two springs, both have worked for the same length of time. We look at the second one for wear and rust and show you what we see. You decide with the facts in front of you.
Can I wind or loosen a spring myself?
No. A spring is wound under heavy tension, and a slipped tool can cause serious injury. Leave the winding bars and the set screws to a trained technician.
How much does spring replacement cost?
Spring replacement starts from $150 per spring. The final price depends on your door and the spring it needs, and you hear it on site before work begins.
